Volunteer Monitoring

Our eelgrass program has long been interested in organizing a group of volunteers to monitor the water quality of local creeks and bays that either support eelgrass or once did. Our organization can only allot as much time and resources for monitoring as funding allows, and often eelgrass beds that are in distress can crash within a season due to very simple water quality problems that could potentially be identified with more frequent monitoring. Volunteer-based water quality monitoring benefits all those involved, filling in data gaps and helping to identify areas in need of further study for scientists while increasing environmental stewardship, interest and knowlege to those who volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering, whether you are involved in an environmental organization or club, you are retired and have some free time, you live on the water or are just looking to help the environment, please email us with how you would like to get involved.
